Loose Gemstones / Sapphires

Sapphires

Every color but red — and, after rubies, the stone our family has traded longest.

What Makes a Fine Natural Sapphire

Sapphire is corundum in every color except red (which is classified as ruby), though blue remains the most sought-after by collectors. As with rubies, treatment history matters enormously — a natural, unheated sapphire of fine color commands a significant premium over a heat-treated stone of similar visual appearance.

Origin plays a meaningful role too: Kashmir, Burmese, and Ceylon sapphires each carry distinct recognition among serious collectors. Every sapphire we offer states origin, treatment status, and certifying lab plainly.

Our Approach

Three Generations of Knowing the Difference

The same expert eye that has evaluated rubies for three generations applies equally here — knowing the difference between a fine natural stone and a well-treated one is a skill built over decades, not read off a spec sheet.
